Late last month, hundreds of people converged in New York City to help the folks at a Boston-based asset management giant break a record.

On October 29, the team at State Street Global Advisors (

Nasdaq in Times Square. The idea was to set a new
Guinness World Records title when ringing the stock exchange's closing bell ... and they did it!
While ETF providers and other financial services industry insiders often host bell ringing ceremonies for their teams, clients, partners, prospects, and the like, the SSGA event last month was meant to be different. On October 28, the SSGA team
publicly invited all investors to join the Nasdaq closing bell ringing ceremony the next day. Their goal: to set a new record for the most people to ring a bell in one hour.
The prior Guinness World Record was 250 people ringing a bell in an hour. The SSGA event at Nasdaq last month beat that record with 533 bell ringers, in sequence, over one hour that October afternoon. Prior to the
celebration, the SSGA team pitched it as ringing the bell "for investors worldwide."
"With the launch of a new campaign, we're demonstrating our commitment to help create better outcomes for the world's investors, whatever their goals or dreams may be," the SSGA team wrote in their October 28 invitation.
